Phoebe Philo’s daughter was the mystery face who closed Burberry last night

After the curtain fell on Burberry AW24 last night, the internet was left scratching its head, attempting to place the final model who closed the show. But no sooner had guests fled the makeshift jousting tent in Victoria Park, than the answer was revealed. Wearing floor sweeping tartan pleats, Phoebe Philo’s daughter Maya Wigram took the closing lap of the show, crunching the woodchip runway as Amy Winehouse’s voice rang through the space.

In attempts to scramble together any tidbits of information about the new face, the fashion press have come up with things like “her Instagram account is set to private,” and “she’s quite active on Depop” as means for a stopgap. The truth is, there’s not really that much out there about Wigram, because this is her first ever show. What we do know is that the model is Philo’s eldest daughter with pub landlord Max Wigram, whom they had in 2005 after Philo famously took maternity leave from Chloé, one of the first high profile designers to do so.

Wigram’s final look also consisted of a leather jacket with a sizable collar, resembling the chin guard on a suit of armour (probably a nod to Burberry’s Equestrian Knight logo). A host of iconic British faces also joined the model for her runway debut, with Agyness Deyn opening in a waxed trench coat, Karen Elson appearing in wellies and a headscarf, Lilys Donaldson and Cole making runway returns, and Naomi Campbell gracing us with her presence in a shaggy, moss frock. Joining them were some of Burberry’s regular Brit faces like Edie Campbell, Malaika Firth, Neelam Gill, and Jean Campbell, plus newer faces like Kai-Isaiah Jamal, Fran Summers, Nora Attal and Lennon Gallagher.

For the collection, creative director Daniel Lee was inspired by the Burberry archetypes who actually wear the clothing, with a set of well dressed stock characters storming his AW24 runway. There were the hypebeasts in baggy trousers and bombers with scarves wrapped around their heads; the Balmoral royal in riding boots and a waxed jacket; the chic party girl in a leather skirt and long-hair shearling jacket; and the west London urbanite in dark sunnies popping to the Portobello Road. This season, Lee certainly had all bases covered, expanding his vision of who the modern Burberry avatar could be.
