South African singer Tyla made her big debut at the 2024 Met Gala tonight, and in the process looked to Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing to kit her out for the occasion.

Where many channelled the night’s Garden of Time theme through florals – truly, groundbreaking – the rising musician instead went for a look that evoked the terrifyingly fast passing of time.

Featuring a sculpted bodice made from sand that pooled out into a sweeping fishtail, the look was finished with a unique accessory in the form of a large, blown-glass sand-timer.

Rousteing mirrored the look, showing up alongside Tyla in a sleek black suit with a matching bodice layered underneath.

Joining them on the green carpet so far has been Zendaya, who turned it out in custom Margiela courtesy of John Galliano, Charli XCX, who went for a Marni look crafted from knackered old t-shirts, and Taylor Russell and Josh O’Connor in bespoke Loewe.
